What are you doing for Boss’s Day?

It is Boss’s Day on October 16th. You may be wondering what the most appropriate way to appreciate your boss is. Appreciating a boss, manager, or superior can be tricky. You don’t want to cross a line, yet if you have a great boss, you want to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Do Something Nice on Boss’s Day

If there are multiple people on the team that all report to the same superior, you can contribute as a group. When everyone works on site, you can easily take the boss to lunch or have everyone sign a card. For virtual teams, you may want to ask for a donation and pool funds to buy something you know the boss would like. A gift card to a favorite restaurant or store, flowers, or something they would enjoy outside of work.

Boss’s DayA mug that says, “World’s Greatest Boss” will probably come off looking cheap and cliché. You want to choose something more meaningful. Think about what the boss’s hobbies and interests are. If you’re not sure, ask some questions. What did you do last weekend? Can you recommend a good restaurant in the area? Do you have suggestions for fun things to do with kids? Give a gift that reflects something he or she would love. Married with a family? Perhaps something the boss could do or enjoy with the entire family.

What if You’re the Boss?

If you are your own boss that can be a good thing and a bad thing. You may not have a team to recognize you on Boss’s Day, but you already know what you love. Take the opportunity to spoil yourself. Treat yourself to a spa day, go to the movies, or go out to lunch with someone else who is their own boss.
