Memorable Mail: Can you mail glow sticks?

can you mail glow sticksA package of glow sticks is small and light weight. The packaging is secure. I wondered, “Can you mail glow sticks?” I waited for a good opportunity to send them. After attending a networking meeting where a client said some really wonderful things to me about our work together I knew it was the perfect opportunity. She said it in front of the entire group. Honestly, I was glowing. It felt good to hear the impact I had made on her business. I wanted to let her know how much her words meant to me. What better way than mailing a package of glow sticks to her?

Glow sticks are usually meant for kids. They are clear plastic tubes with liquid inside. When you snap them, they release a chemical inside the stick. As you shake it, the chemicals mix and form a glowing color. You can buy them in many varieties – bracelets, necklaces, wands, sticks.

The package I mailed had five sticks in it with connectors to make them into bracelets. It also has a stiff cardboard inside the package so they don’t accidentally get snapped. I put an address label on one side and a message on the other, making sure to leave plenty of room for postage.

When I brought the package to the post office, I wasn’t sure what the right answer was to, “Is it liquid, hazardous, perishable or breakable?” I answered no. They took the package and charged only $2.67 for postage. I sent it first class, parcel which arrived locally in a day or two.
