Gift of the Week – Soak it Up Cloths

soak it up clothsA couple years ago, my mom sent me a gift for Valentine’s Day. It was a rectangle that was stiff and thicker than paper. It was decorated with hearts. I wasn’t sure what to do with it. Should I hang it on the wall? Was it meant to be a large coaster? It wasn’t quite a hot pad or trivet. Some time later I discovered Swedish dish cloths. They were just like my unknown gift. (I know. I should have just asked my mom to begin with.) Flash forward and I was recently introduced to a Minnesotan who is putting her own spin on these cloths with her business, Soak it Up Cloths. (And these cloths include a tag to let you know what it is.)

Soak it Up Cloths was started by a graphic designer. She saw the potential for printing fun designs on these cloths. She also loved how environmentally friendly they are. Each cloth replaces over 1,500 paper towels. They can be used for washing dishes, but also wiping up messes and cleaning faces. You can also wash them in the dishwasher and sanitize them in the microwave. They are super absorbent – absorbing up to 16 times their weight.

Who gives Soak it Up Cloths as a gift?

Dishcloths don’t sound like a very special gift, but I love them because they are useful. People will interact with it on a daily basis and remember who gave it to them. It is definitely a low end gift, but could be perfect for someone who does meal planning or cooking classes. These would also be great for anyone involved in kitchen remodeling – the designer, contractor, or cabinet maker.

Make it more meaningful.

They have several catchy sayings on their ready-to-order cloths. You can also customize them with your own logo or saying. The minimum order is 500 for custom cloths.
