Gift of the Week – Math Clock

math clockTelling time just got a little bit harder with this clock. The round face and hands of this math clock look familiar, but the numbers have been replaced with math problems. What time is it when the hour hand is on 630/126 and the minute hand is on -8 = 2-x? That would be 5:50, of course! While it may be confusing to the average person, this clock is a thrill for math nerds everywhere. Thankfully, I memorized where the numbers on the clock are years ago, so even without an advanced degree in mathematics, I can still tell time with this clock.

Who gives a math clock as a gift?

The math clock is a fun gift to give to mathematicians, math teachers or tutors, and engineers. If your clients naturally fall into one of those categories, this would be an entertaining and useful gift. Working with a group of actuaries? They will geek out over this gift.

Make it more meaningful.

Although this gift can’t be personalized, any math nerd will get a kick out of it. If you are really creative, you could create a code out of math problems and have them solve to discover the message. You could also say something clever like this:

  • I can’t “figure out” what I would do without you.
  • Thanks for being my number 1 client.
  • Thanks for the “number” of times you’ve helped “solve” our problems.
  • I’m so glad I can “count” on you.
